2007 - Hunter Water - Edgeworth WWTW Upgrade in Detail

After a successful tender in late 2007 Gongues Consturctions was awarded this project at Edgeworth Waste Water Treatment Works. This contract involved the construction of a new reinforced concrete inlet works adjacent to the exsting one, the relocation of the rising mains to the new inlet works, installation of mechanical equipment, commissioning of new plant and demolition of the redundant inlet works.

Edgeworth WWTW - Civil Construction

 The civil works involved

  • Over 1500m3 of bulk earthworks
  • Over 500m3 of concrete
  • Over 1000m2 of formwork

Drilling piles for the frow receival chamber

The base of the flow receival chamber being prepared and the heads of the rising mains set in the floor.

The bypass pipework in the background will allow us to divert flow when the rising mains have been connected.

Blinding and piles have been installed for the rest of the inlet works

Forming up an outer wall of the inlet works

Using high accuracy survey equipment to set out piles

Formwork and reinfrocement being installed for the high flow bypass on the right.

The flow receival chamber is straight ahead with the bypass pipework connection in the end.

Formwork and reinforcement on the end of the inlet works. The round grit vortex can be seen on the left and the flume flow channel can be seen on the right while the middle channel is for bypassing the grit vortex.

The flow receival chamber with the waterproof membrane installed.

Stripped concrete in the flow channel just downstream of the flow receival chamber

Hydrostatic testing of the high flow bypass

Edgeworth WWTW - Mechanical, Electrical and Control Systems
